Save 🍓 Your 🍓 Berries 🍓

We’ve all been there. You pick up some fresh berries at the market and put them in your refrigerator. Less than 48 hours later, the berries are mushy and covered in mold. Before you even had a chance to enjoy them, those berries are gone.

Why Do Berries Go Bad So Fast?

The short answer is moisture and mold. Berries are very porous and have delicate skin, meaning they soak up a lot of excess moisture in the air. Berries also often carry mold spores, which grow rapidly when exposed to excess moisture. This combination leads to a lot of moldy berries.

How to Save Your Berries!

You can have your berries and eat them too. As soon as you bring them home, remove the berries from their container and spray them thoroughly with Aqueous Ozone from the o3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle. The immediate oxidation that takes place will kill any mold spores in the berries and prevent mold from forming.

Let the berries air dry on a paper towel before putting them into the refrigerator in a small colander or other type of vented container. Line the bottom with a paper towel to soak up any excess moisture.

How It Works

Ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent. When dissolved in water it becomes Aqueous Ozone, a natural cleaner that kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria. Aqueous Ozone breaks down quickly, leaving behind only water and oxygen. The Sanitizing Spray Bottle is FDA Food Code Compliant to be used on all commercial foodservice surfaces for sanitization. It is also compliant to the USDA CFR exemption to spray directly on finished or unfinished foods.
