Smart Laundry System FAQs

How does it work?

Our patented technology transforms ordinary tap water into O3 Water using a proprietary electrical process to convert oxygen into loosely-held O3 molecules, that readily oxidize and destroy harmful microorganisms on contact. The O3 bubbles are then precisely mixed into the water using a micro bubbling process to create O3 Water on-demand.

The Smart Laundry System has the ability to produce more or less dissolved O3; according to the built in sensors for humidity, air temperature and water flow. Then there is an algorithm that controls variable output of O3 to meet the target dissolved concentration. The ability to detect these unique ambient conditions and automatically make adjustments to the O3 generation is the key to this Smart Laundry System.

How will I save money using it?

With the O3waterworks Smart Laundry System you no longer need to spend money on expensive laundry detergents or electricity to heat water.

According to the Department of Energy and American Laundry Association, an average family of 4, doing 8 loads per week, will save approximately $800 per year.

Normal use of the Smart Laundry System will result in savings nearly double the original cost of the system, in the first year!

How does the it reduce pollution?

The O3waterworks Smart Laundry System reduces pollution in the following ways:

  • Laundry detergents are chock-full of chemicals that get washed into local waste water systems, that eventually make there way into local streams and rivers.

  • The greatest source of microplastics in our environment is from the traditional laundry process. Approximately 11,000 loads of laundry are started every second in the USA, which contributes to significant amounts of microplastics in our waste water.

  • It is estimated that in the USA more than 700 million plastic laundry jugs are thrown away into landfills every year. The Smart Laundry System creates O3 water on demand, preventing this waste from ever occurring.

  • Heating water during the laundry process uses energy and contributes to a higher environmental impact of energy providers (Gas, Coal, Nuclear, etc).

  • Traditional detergents cause more damage to your clothing. Chemicals in detergents cause tiny fibers to break away from your clothing and are flushed into the local waste water systems, which can eventually end up in nearby aquatic environments.
How is it better for my health?

Many of the chemicals used in laundry detergents are known to be toxic. The Smart Laundry System replaces chemical laundry detergents with O3 Water.

These chemical detergents never completely wash away from the fibers of your clothing and end up leaching into your body’s largest organ, your skin.

Some of the chemicals used in laundry detergents & fabric softners, such as NPE (Nonylphenol Ethoxylate), are known to cause cancers and birth defects and are banned throughout Canada and Europe, yet are readily used in the USA.

Is O3 a proven cleaning technology?

Yes, hospitals and major brand hotels have been using a similar type of O3 technology to clean and sanitize laundry for decades. We have re-engineered this expensive and complicated industrial process, and turned it into a convenient and effective laundry cleaning solution for your home.

Additionally, O3 is used in comercial application for drinking water, swiming pools, food treatment & more...

  • Drinking Water Treatment: O3 is approved by the FDA as a sanitizing agent both at municipal water treatment plants as well as in the bottled water industry. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) has also approved its use as an antimicrobial agent.

  • Food Treatment: O3 has been approved by the FDA and the USDA on the treatment of food. The FDA formally approved the use of O3 as an Antimicrobial Agent for the Treatment, Storage, and Processing of Foods. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA/FSIS) approved the use of O3 for meats and poultry. In addition to direct contact of foods, O3 also can be applied to food processing equipment and non-food contact surfaces as part of a food company’s sanitation efforts.

  • Swimming Pool Treatment: O3 generators are used instead of chlorine to sanitize pools because it is a powerful oxidizer and works 3,000 times faster than chlorine and uses no harmful chemicals.
What is the mixer window?

The Smart Laundry System has a site window to show the O3 being mixed into the water. The mixer window will light up and you will see the O3 bubbles running through when it is running.

Can I still use laundry detergent?

Yes, if you still prefer the scent of your traditional detergent, you can use laundry detergent along with the Smart Laundry System, but it is recommended to use much less. Pile tests show that fabrics washed in O3 stack thicker and fluffier without the use of detergents or fabric softeners.

Can I still use fabric softener?

Yes, if you like the added smell of fabric softeners, you may continue to use them in your washing machine, but dryer sheets are recommended. O3 leaves fabrics cleaner and softer compared to detergents and fabric softeners.

Do I need to use hot or warm water?

No, with the O3waterworks Smart Laundry System you no longer need to use heated water. O3 actually works better in colder water, so you can stop wasting money & energy heating water.

Should I use the extra rinse cycle?

Yes, it is recommended to use the cold water rinse cycle (if your washer has this feature). This is especially useful for low flow high efficiency machines that use very little water in the wash and rinse cycle.

Why is there less lint in my dryer?

The increased lint that you see when you do laundry using chemical detergents, is the noticeable result of more damage occurring to the clothes. The Smart Laundry System uses O3 as the cleaning agent, which bonds with the organic contaminants in your clothing. As a result, your laundry is less damaged than when using chemical detergents.

How long will it last?

The O3waterworks Smart Laundry System is built to last for many years and includes a industry standard manufactures warranty that protects you against any defects or malfunctions. We estimate that it will last up to 3 to 5 years with normal use. The warranty protects against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one year from the date of original retail purchase.

If it stops working you will know because the clothes will not smell fresh coming out of the washer. Unlike traditional laundering, O3 has no chemical fragrances masking foul odors, so the performance feedback is honest and obvious. If you are having any issues please contact our customer service for assistance.

Normal use will result in savings nearly double the original cost of the system in the first year!

How much O3 does it produce?

The Smart Laundry System has the ability to produce more or less dissolved O3; according to the built in sensors for humidity, air temperature and water flow. Then there is an algorithm that controls variable output of O3 to meet the target dissolved concentration of .5ppm (.5mg/l) and 1ppm (1mg/l) on boost mode.

Is it safe for colors?

Yes, colored fabrics are safe to be laundered even in higher concentrations. Note: On rare occasions some organic based dyes and dyes with improper colorfastness may fade.

Do I need to separate colors and whites?

No, you can wash colors and whites together as long as the colors have been previously washed.

Can it be used to clean washable baby diapers?

Yes, the Smart Laundry System will deliver enough dissolved O3 in that water to effectively clean washable diapers. The first thing that you will see is all the odor and urine stains removed, followed by stains. To remove poop stains, use of a diaper stain pre-treatment or baby stain remover may be needed. The feedback received from our customers is that it destroys the ammonia odor and leaves the diapers smelling fresh and void of chemicals, which is the primary goal of detergent free washing.

Can I use a line splitter?

Yes, O3 Water from the Smart Laundry System output hose can be split using a hose splitter, so that you can use O3 Water in more ways, like to fill buckets of O3 Water. The Smart Laundry System will automatically start working once water is pulled through any side of the splitter.

Can the O3 Water be used for washing pets?

Yes, O3 Water from the Smart Laundry System is safe to be used for cleaning pets.

Is the O3 Water drinkable?

No, it is not recommended for the OWater to be ingested. The Smart Laundry System has not been tested or certified to perform as a water purifier for drinking purposes.

Can I smell the O3?

Yes, you may notice the smell of O3 during operation, this is normal, and lets you know that the system is working. The O3 created by the Smart Laundry System is the same compound created by lightning storms, which is often why people say their laundry has a fresh, natural rain smell. The O3 levels generated are safe and compliant with OSHA's strict safety standards. The O3 will dissipate once the clothes are dry, leaving a fresh, clean smell, free of chemical perfumes.

Can I use it with hard water?

Yes, the Smart Laundry System works with hard water and is no more sensitive to hard water than your other water processing appliances, such as; Water Heaters, Coffee Makers, Faucets etc. If you feel your water is very hard or heavily mineralized beyond average, it may decrease the overall O3 concentration, and therefore it is recommended to have your water analyzed by a professional and install an appropriate whole home water treatment system.

Can I use it with soft water or well water?

Yes, the O3waterworks Smart Laundry System works with soft water and well water. It may be advisable to use a home pre-filter or conditioner to better protect all water related appliances and fixtures, as it can increase their performance and longevity.

Can it be used with septic tanks?

Yes, the Smart Laundry System is very good for septic systems. There is good bacteria needed in the septic tank that break down the solid wastes. Those bacteria reside primarily at the bottom of the tank. When the water runs off from the washer into the septic tank nearly all of the O3 is already broken down back into water and oxygen. It is in fact good for the septic tank to have additional oxygen rather than chemical detergents and any O3 remaining in the water will help to neutralize the surface contaminants and not affect the good bacteria needed at the lower portion of the septic tank.

Sanitizing Spray Bottle FAQs

How does it work?
The O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle makes O3 on demand. O3, also known as Enhanced Oxygen, Trioxygen or Ozone, is created from normal tap water and oxygen pulled from the air. It creates O3 Water (also know as Aqueous Ozone or Ozonated Water) through a patented process we call Active Diamond Electrolytic Process Technology, (ADEPT). With ADEPT, water from the bottle reservoir is sent into a chamber where it passes through a solid diamond plate and comes into contact with a direct electrical current. Here, an electrochemical reaction occurs that splits the water molecules to create free oxygen atoms, which then bond together to form ozone. The bottle then sprays the O3 water through the nozzle.
How long is O3 active once sprayed?
The O3 sprayed from the bottle is active for 5 minutes. O3 is a very biodegradable molecule. Once it is done cleaning contaminants and killing pathogens, it reverts back to oxygen and water. Every time you pull the trigger, O3 is created on-demand, and the five-minute clock starts.
How much O3 does it produce?
The O3waterworks sanitizing spray bottle uses a diamond electrolytic cell that produces the aqueous ozone on demand as it is being sprayed. The dissolved O3 concentration, using normal cold tap water, is approximately 1.5ppm or 1.5mg/l. The small amount of O3 gas is hardly detectable and is compliant with strict safety standards. The average indoor air level of O3 from use of the Sanitizing Spray Bottle ranged from 0.00123 to 0.00567 ppm, depending on the room of use for the device. These levels are only 1.5 to 7 percent of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) of 0.08 ppm. (See Toxcel Risk Assessment report for 3rd party verification.)
What type of water can be used?
Use normal cold tap water with your sanitizing spray bottle. You can use Reverse Osmosis water for improved performance but do not use distilled or deionized water for damage to the O3 cell may occur. You should never add anything to the water in the reservoir. Adding things like essential oils and other chemicals can interfere with the creation of ozone and damage the internal hardware of the bottle. Do not use heated water.
How do I know it's producing O3?
There are two LED lights on the head of the bottle. A blue checkmark will light up when you pull the trigger. This indicates your bottle is working and producing ozone.
How does O3 clean & sanitize?
O3 is a powerful natural oxidizing agent, meaning its oxygen atoms can cause chemical changes. When O3 encounters soils, pathogens, and microbes that cause odors or illness, it reacts with them and changes their characteristics. O3 reacts with odorants to disable their odor and attacks bacterial cell walls, killing the pathogens completely.
What Pathogens does O3 Kill?

O3 can reduce the level of some of the most common pathogens by at least 99.9% percent in just 30 seconds compared to other multi-purpose cleaners.

Common pathogens ozone can kill include:

   - E. coli
   - Salmonella
   - Staph A.
   - Enterobacter aerogenes
   - Klebsiella pneumonia
   - *See the Science page for a full list.

What does O3 smell like?
Have you ever walked outside after a big lightning & thunder storm? That’s O3! Mother Nature produces massive amounts of O3 during thunderstorms to oxidize the air. However, since we produce O3 in smaller amounts, the smell won’t be as strong, and it will be localized to where it is applied. Because the O3 reverts back to water and oxygen there will be no long-term smell left on your clothes or surfaces.
When does it need to be charged?
There are two LED lights on the head of the bottle. A red “X” will light up when the bottle needs to be charged.
How long should I charge it?
You only need to charge the bottle for about 2-2.5 hours. To maximize the battery life it is not recommended to leave the bottle on the charger for more than 4 hours.
How long will it last on a single charge?
The answer depends on how often you use the bottle. Generally, we find that the charge on the Sanitizing Spray bottle lasts up to three reservoir refills.
What surfaces is it effective on?
You can the O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle to sanitize, deodorize and clean hard non-porous surface such as:

  - Tables and countertops
  - Door handles and stair rails
  - Foodservice prep areas and equipment
  - Bathroom surfaces and appliances
  - Gym equipment

The O3waterworks Sanitizing Spray Bottle is also perfect to use on:

  - Pet beds, throws and pillows
  - Appliances and other stainless steel surfaces
  - Mirrors and windows

How will I know it is charging?
If there are no lights on the spray bottle it is not charging. There is an LED light on the wall charger that when plugged into the bottle indicates if the bottle is fully charged (green) or if it is charging (Red). When the bottle is unplugged and becoming low on battery it will flash 1 red X light on the spray head or flash 3 red X lights when it requires charging.
Can I use hard water?
The sanitizing spray bottle may use tap water even if it is considered hard or mineralized. Depending on the unique chemistry of your water, heavily mineralized water may decrease the overall O3 concentration and therefore reduce its overall sanitizing ability. If you feel your water is very hard or heavily mineralized beyond average, then it is recommended to have your water analyzed by a professional and install an appropriate whole home water treatment system which will promote better function and longevity to all the water processing appliances and fixtures in your home. We cannot say with certainty how the spray bottle will perform for you given the unknown aspect of your specific water chemistry. If you question your tap water then you can use Reverse Osmosis (RO) water that you can purchase typically in any grocery store for about $1 a gallon. RO water will give you stronger concentration o3 and will allow the device to last the longest.
How long will it last?
The sanitizing spray bottle typically will last at least 600 reservoir fills or up to 5 years. The built in rechargeable Li-Ion battery will last for the life of the appliance and should not need to be replaced. There are 2 LED lights on top of the spray head that provide feedback on the bottles condition. The Blue check light is when the bottle is producing aqueous ozone normally. There is a Red X that informs the user of various conditions such as low battery, charge needed or that he bottle needs servicing. o3waterworks can accept the bottle back for proper recycling once it has reached its end of life.
Who uses O3 to clean?
O3 is used in comercial application for bottled water, swiming pools, food treatment, storage, process facilities & more!

BOTTLED WATER: O3 is approved by the FDA as a sanitizing agent both at municipal water treatment plants as well as in the bottled water industry. The International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) has also approved its use as an antimicrobial agent.

FOOD TREATMENT:O3 has been approved by the FDA and the USDA on the treatment of food. The FDA formally approved the use of ozone as an Antimicrobial Agent for the Treatment, Storage, and Processing of Foods in Gas and Aqueous Phases. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA/FSIS) approved the use of ozone for contact with meats and poultry, including raw products to fresh cooked, and prior to packaging. In addition to direct contact of foods, ozone also can be applied to food processing equipment and non-food contact surfaces as part of a food company’s sanitation efforts.

SWIMMING POOLS: Across the U.S., O3 generators are used instead of chlorine to sanitize pools because it is a powerful oxidizer and works 3,000 times faster than chlorine and uses no harmful chemicals.

CLEANING LAUNDRY: Hospitals and major brand hotels have been using a similar type of O3 technology for decades. We have re-engineered this expensive and complicated industrial process, and turned it into a convenient and effective laundry cleaning solution for your home.
How should I clean the bottle?
To clean the outside of the bottle, spray normal cold tap water onto a towel making the towel damp, but not saturated. Immediately use the towel and wipe down the entire surface. Make sure the rubber cap is in place that covers the charging port on the side of the spray head prior to cleaning.
How should I clean inside the reservoir?
To clean the inside of the bottle’s reservoir first make sure the bottle’s battery is charged then follow the steps below to clean and sanitize inside the reservoir. Do not use any chemicals inside the reservoir or damage may occur.

1 - Fill reservoir with normal cold tap water.
2 - Add one teaspoon table salt into the reservoir and shake until dissolved. (Any kind of table salt is ok)
3 - Spray the entire contents of the bottle into a cup. (a 4C measuring cup works great)
4 - Immediately add the salty sprayed water back into the bottle’s reservoir and close the fill cap. Shake and allow to rest for a few hours or even over-night.
5 - Drain the salty water out from the reservoir fill port and rinse with fresh tap water.
6 - Refill with normal cold tap water and use normally.

How is it better than other multi-purpose cleaners?
The Sanitizing Spray Bottle uses only one ingredient – normal tap water, to make O3 Water replacing toxic chemical cleaners. Unlike most sanitizers, deodorizes, and cleaners, our spray bottle doesn’t use harmful chemicals, dyes, or perfumes. Many ingredients used in typical multi-purpose cleaners are known allergens and can cause irritation of skin, eyes and respiratory systems, or even asthma. Even some cleaning products that are marketed as ‘green’ or ‘natural’ may have harmful ingredients in their fragrances and dyes. That’s because current regulations do not require manufacturers to list all ingredients on the labels.
Has it been tested by an independent third party?

Yes, please see independent third party testing here: LAB VERIFIED + INDEPENDENTLY TESTED
